Member's Night - Wednesday 3rd November 2010

Member's Nights at the club are where 2 or three members are asked to strut their stuff and tell the member's about what photography means to them. Last night we had three nature loving photographers in the form of Karen van der Zijden, Catherine Clark and Gerald Davies.

The evening opened with the girls giving an amusing joint presentation about their pursuit of capturing Dolphin pictures at Chanonry Point. Titled "Dolphin Spotting for Dummies" the girls not only provided excellent information as to how to go about catching these elusive creatures but also great tips as to gear needed and how to deal with the hoardes of tourists that visit in the summer. The images they did show were of an excellent standard and made me think about spending some time down "at the point".

Catherine gave a run down of her own work which showed not only what could be done with a little travel and patience but also what is available at our own front doors.

Karen showed two short audio visual presentations which were not only well crafted but showed the depth of her work.

After the break it was the turn of our Comeptition Secretary, Gerald Davies, who not only showed some great nature work and the sometimes unorthodox methods of approaching the subject - like 17mm lens with a swan! Gerald finished with one of his pet subjects, the waterfalls of the Brecon Beacons. Taken over a small number of years Gerald had studied and captured his once-local falls with the resultant images making any budding photographer wanting to rush off to the nearest waterfall.

Once again the talent within the club is inspiring and new members must surely have had their appeitite well whetted.
