The evening saw an interesting talk and presentation by David Whitaker-Smith covering is life as an RAF and press photographer.
David was posted to many of the theatres of war from the 1990's until leaving the RAF to join the Press and Journal, having been trained in both stills and video photography. His presentation was full of thought provoking images and footage, which brought home the reality of life in a war zone, whether as a civilian or as part of the military.
The second part of the talk was about his life after leaving the military and joining the Press and Journal. He described his role as a press photographer and gave us an insight into the daily work as a member of the press. This part of the presentation showed the many skills he has acquired and needs to fulfil his current role, having to cover a large range of events.
David did field a lot of questions on both of jobs, but many more on the work as a press photographer as we can relate to many of the stories he has covered.
I'd like to thank David for an interesting and thought provoking evening.
