"This week it was the turn of Inverness Camera Club's Kita McIntosh to showcase some of her images in her presentaion "From Minimum to Maximum". She did this in her own unique style and certainly didn't disappoint.
She gave an interactive presentation and showed us many of her favourite cameras ranging from her Holga purple and Kodak Brownie Cresta through to a digital Fisherprice camera! Quoting Wikipedia, Kita desribed the Holga as being an inexpensive, medium format toy camera appreciated for its low-fidelity aesthetic. It's cheap, plastic construction (including the lens) often yields pictures that display vignetting, blur, light leaks and other distortions. It has gained something of a cult following and Kita showed that in the right pair of hands, it can create some wonderful images.
Kita showed a series of AV presentaions demonstrating her artistic ability with photographs taken with often the most basic of cameras. Many of these photographs were taken with old technology and treated with modern technology in Photoshop. She agreed with the statement made by John McPherson in his recent presentation that "Blurred is the new sharp!". She even noted that mould on the camera lens is not necessarily a bad thing as it made for some interesting and artistic results.
This excellent presentation proved a hit with club members who enjoyed seeing Kita's artistic approach to photography. It made us look at photography in a different way, although one audience member was left wondering why he had just spent £1200 on a new lens to ensure everything was pin sharp!"
