An excellent evening was had with Roy Robertson FRPS judging the Annual Competition for Slides and Monochrome Prints. With an eye for detail he judged 29 slides (set subject ‘Proverbs or Sayings’ and an open section) and 45 monochrome prints (open section).
In a constructive manner Roy pointed out the positive aspects of the images, but he also indicated how images could be improved by changing the composition or exposure, paying attention to the edges of the image, tonal range and what to include or exclude in your image. Roy reminded us that ideas should be carried through all the way and that taking a photo is stage one, but you have to then work on the print to make the image work at its best.
